Configure the validation rule first. The optional Credit checkout note is a Plus-only informational block; it does not activate enforcement.
Starting context
Before you start
- Native Shopify B2B terms and an assigned contact for the location being tested.
- Completed NetGuard setup and an active validation rule. Public App Store app Functions are available across Shopify plans.
- Shopify Plus only if you want the optional note at the information/shipping/payment checkout steps.
Enable the controls
Use the active Shopify checkout configuration. The validation function reads synchronized metafields; this release does not require Function network access.
In NetGuard Settings, check Offer Pay by Invoice and review Block orders over the credit limit, Block orders from companies on hold and Block orders from companies with overdue invoices.
Expected resultThe switches match your policy. Each confirmation explains how changing a check affects new orders.
Open Shopify admin → Settings → Checkout, find the checkout rules area, add or activate NetGuard’s credit validation rule and save.
Expected resultThe function is active for supported checkout flows. Verify the saved rule independently of any visible credit note.
On Shopify Plus, optionally customize the active checkout, add Credit checkout note at its supported app-block location and save. Use the onboarding placement check again action.
Expected resultEligible B2B buyers see credit information. On non-Plus plans this optional payment-step block is unavailable; validation errors are a different surface.
Test one condition at a time
Use fictional development-store records rather than changing a real buyer’s limit to provoke a refusal.
Sign in as the assigned B2B contact and select the intended location. Try a cart below both company headroom and its branch slice.
Expected resultThe supported credit checkout can complete when terms and enabled credit-policy checks allow it. Subsequent invoice approval can still hit the monthly cap; capacity is not a validation-function check.
Increase the test cart above available credit with the over-limit rule enabled. Repeat with a held company and its corresponding check enabled.
Expected resultThe relevant validation error prevents the disallowed credit order. A branded note is not required to demonstrate the refusal.
Restore the test status and inspect Orders and the company’s exposure. Review Orders on hold for orders arriving through other channels.
Expected resultAllowed orders enter the workflow; some other sources need post-order review rather than storefront pre-checkout validation.
Keep in mind. Paying an existing invoice through the buyer portal settles earlier debt. It has different eligibility from a new credit purchase and is not an enforcement test.
Check before retrying
If the result differs
- An above-limit checkout passed
- Check the saved Shopify rule, policy switch, purchasing location, native terms, current headroom and order channel.
- The note cannot be added
- Check Shopify Plus entitlement and the supported target. Its absence on non-Plus does not mean the validation function is unavailable.
- Invoice terms are missing
- Check native location terms, contact/catalog access and company status. Return to the readiness check. NetGuard’s monthly invoice cap is checked at invoice approval, not by the validation function.
Contact NetGuard support with the store domain, record identifier and the result you expected. Redact unrelated personal information.
